Black seed oil is one of the natural products that has long been used for the treatment of arthralgia due to cold dystemperament in traditional Persian medicine. Also, this is shown to be effective in the prevention and treatment of various ailments such as arthralgia, headache, nasal congestion, asthma, allergy, infections, gastrointestinal disorders, and the reinforcement of immune system.
Thymoquinone, the active ingredient in black seed, has analgesic and strong anti-inflammatory effects, regulatory function for the immune system and lymphocyte T activator, and the inhibition of allergic processes. Also, antispasmodic and warming effects have been reported for the alkaloid Nigellone.
Use of black seed oil in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, by reducing the number of painful and swelling joints and morning dryness, also can be used as adjuvant treatment with anti-rheumatic drugs.
